Although the smoke is long gone, the bar and restaurant is noisy on a Monday night, as musicians from various backgrounds, aged 23 to 60 start squeezing in behind music stands and onto folding chairs as Swingadelic prepares to rock Maxwell's, a venue generally associated as "New Jersey's premier rock'n'roll nightclub". For six years, the band has been meeting one or two Mondays a month to play jazz & blues tunes from the Count Basie & Duke Ellington era of the 30's to music from the swingin' 60's like Ray Charles and the Beatles.

The band also plays original compositions that the band members bring in, arranged for the eleven piece orchestra. Their latest CD, "Another Monday Night" features all original music, with the exception of a 30's era Ellington composition called "The Gal From Joe's", that the band recorded for the sound track of a movie featuring Michele Hurd and Rita Moreno.

The bandleader and bassist of this "little big band" is Hoboken resident and Maxwell's co-owner Dave Post. Other Hobokenites are Southside Johnny trombonist and vocalist Neal Pawley, Julliard grad student Rob Edwards and drummer Paul Pizzuti, who recently played with Harry Connick on a Broadway production of "The Pajama Game". Another trombone player is Rob Susman (Riverdale). The sax section consists of Audrey Welber/alto (East Brunswick), Paul Carlon/tenor and John DiSanto/baritone, from Manhattan and New Brunswick respectively. The trumpets feature Carlos Francis (East Orange) and Grammy nominee Albert Leusink, a native of Netherlands, now residing in Queens. In addition to Post & Pizzuti, the rhythm section features Boo Reiners (Union City) who won a Grammy with The Klezmatics, and the piano and vocals of Emmy Award winner John Bauers, who lives in Jersey City.

Besides the Maxwell's gig, the band plays many corporate events and weddings, as well as concerts and swing dances. Swingadelic's public performance schedule can be found at here at swingadelic.com and their music is available for purchase on iTunes.
